Hi

We are living in Hk since June this yr. I am with an American Co on work permit and wife is on Dependent visa. We are having a baby and the delivery will not be in Hk. What are the visa requirements for the new born to come to HK with my wife to live here post delivery and how long does the process take? I would like them to join me ASAP. If someone could tell me what is the process I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Visa requirement would actually be the same whether the baby is born in HK or not. They would require a dependant visa. The only difference is that if the baby was born in HK you would have time to get him / her a US passport and apply for dependant visa, whereas if the baby is born outside you would need to wait for a passport to be issued before they would be able to travel to HK.

Hi thanks

Since we are from India we are planning to go to Delhi for the delivery. I will come back to Hk (not easy to get leave) while my wife will get the baby's birth cert and then an Indian passport made for the baby. I wanted to know how to get the dependent visa once she has the passport. Should she come here to HK as soon as passport is ready and get 14 day visa for the baby and then apply to immigration for dependent visa? Or should she apply for the visa from Delhi in which case I fear she may have to wait 3-4 weeks more before coming to Hk.

They have good hospitals in HK so why risk the air travel?

India will recognise the birth in HK even though births to non-citizens of India, in India, doesn't make the child Indian.
