Company using pirate software

ORIGINAL POST

I am working in a French company, there are 26 employees in HK office and 50 in ShenZhen office.

I work as a sytem administrator and after I joined the company I realized that most of the software don't have license.

Obviously the top managment aware of that but they don't care. In June this year I sent an email with proposal to my superior (a French CFO) telling that starting from 11st of July, using pirate software for business is not just unlawful but criminal. I suggest to do SAM(software asset management) and inform HR to update the staff handbook, etc., but she just ignored my suggestion.

I called the custom hotline to ask for details about company using pirate software. I was told that I am also guilty (sob......)

So what can I do now? I am afraid I'll be prosecuted. Should I quit the job and report to custom office? In this case will I still get prosecuted?

Looking forward to getting legal advise soon, greatly appreciated.

Small and large companies use 'hot' software.

As an employee you have no liability - it's used on company computers for company profit where's your risk.

As for rewards, beerboy is way off the mark. Imagine Microsoft paying anything.

If you so upset about your employers activities why not just forget it and look for another job?

Mind you try and get the reward. A company in UK was reported to BSA there, an ex IT contractor reported them as the pirate software was rampant - especially for Microsoft. The company was fined big bucks in court but the guy who reported it didn't get a bean.
