observing my son's eating habits, he is gradually lossing his good appetite. he's turning 2 next month. though he has a lot of liquid intake everyday- formula milk, soya milk, water...etc. i'm quite worried as he used to have a good appetite. Now, he will only taste a bit from his spoon and will refuse to take a further bite.
btw, he just had a fever due to cold and flu (cold weather!) but am not sure if this is the cause as even before this, he doesn't eat that much anymore.
other than that, he looks healthy & hopefully is healthy! He weighs 36kgs & is 2"11ft and is in the 75th percentile based on the growth chart.
any advice on how to get him back to his normal appetite again?

Don't do anything. Kids at this age have appetites that are all over the map: eating 3 bites one day and enough to feed 3 small villages the next. Just keep offering reasonable portions of healthy foods and let him decide how much he will eat. Anything else will set you up for an avoidable power struggle [and who needs more of those with a 2yo!?]
I think that 36kgs must be a mistype...

Maybe cut back on the milk. My friend used to give her son milk whenever he wanted and he hardly ever ate anything. Once she cut back on the milk, bang, he started eating better.
As Z said, they will be all over the place with the eating at this age, it's completely normal. If you child was underweight then you could start worrying. My daughter was a terrible eater and it used to worry me, but she has turned out normal. It's completely natural for a child to go through this.
If you are overly worried, go to the clinic and talk to a nurse/doctor, but I'm sure they will same the same thing.

I went thru the same thing a couple mths ago when my son was 20 mths old, which lasted for about 2-3 weeks. What finally made the difference was I changed 80% of his menu! He does eats less than he used to, but that's normal for toddlers as their growth demands less than a growing baby.

oh my word! please say you mean 36 pounds and not kgs!!! I am 55 kgs and I am in my mid-30ies! he must be enourmous! my 2.5 yrs old daughters are 16 kg and that's quite big already!

wow, he is almost two and weight 36lbs, how wonderful! Mine is 21 months and weight 22 lbs for months already. He is eating but just not putting on weight. Maybe he just eat 3 good meals a day and seldom ask for snacks, i have to really put it into his mouth. Everyone says he is slander, please how can you help me to make him a little 'fatter or meaty'?

hi ms cheerful,
am not sure if this will help you but i do give my son his daily dose of Vitamin C and Mulitivitamins. this maybe why he has good weight stats despite eating less..

hmmm.. i dont think multivitamins have anything to do with putting on weight. Mscheerful maybe your child is just slender as you say - what are you both (you and your husband) like - are you quite small? if he eats well and happy and healthy that's maybe how he is build naturally - i would not worry!

Only start the worry if they become lethargic and start losing weight. Generally, if the kids are happy and have energy to get through the day, then all is well.
As ldsllvn said, that could be the natural build. My friend's daughter is 3 weeks younger than my 5 year old and my daughter is in size 5-6 clothes, whereas my freind's daughter is still in 3-4!!!! But she is happy and healthy, that's just how she is.

My hubby and I are not worry about his weight but just that so many of our 'concern friends' had made remarks to us and among themselves that my son is 'skinny or thin'. Yes, ldsllvn and neenib, he is just happy, healthy and LOVE to run child. His father is having smaller frame than me :( We see that he takes on his father's body built and my height. So instead of growing big in side and size, he goes taller. He is wearing size 90 pants but need a belt to tighten. I did not give him regular vitamin because he really have 3 well balance meals per day and he loves fruits and veggies. I 'junk' him a little once awhile with Mac donald frieds or KFC or forbidden snacks like cheerio (with sugar). However, if he can put on a little of weight it will be so nice but again, not really matter.

I do not understand why people still give their kids formula when they are 2 or even 3 to be honest. Formula is a meal and basically if this was all you were giving your son then I'm sure he'd still be fine. Once I weaned my son off breast milk (around 1) I put him on a glass of full fat milk with breakfast and with dinner. It sounds like your son has lost his appetite because he has been sick. I would just continue to make and offer him food. Make sure everything you give him is excellent quality and nutrition wise. For example if he eats pasta, make your own sauce with loads of veggies and blend it. Sorry if not being too helpful but perhaps the formula is filling him up.

My baby is 22 months and about 23-24pounds, so he's on the not so heavy side of things, but apparently nowadays that's the 'better' way to be. Or so my mother- in -law always tells me. Neither my hubby now i were big as babies. i agree that plump babies are cuter, but i dont think theya re necessarily healthier and dont pay any attnetion to 'concerned' friends.
as for the formula question, mine is almost two and on formula, because he developed a lactose intolerance when he had gastroenteritis and it wont go away.
besides i hate to admit it, but formula is just that much easier to transport.
