Dear Asiaxpat community,
Does anybody know what kind of wage a mid-level business and legal policy consultant can expect to make in Hong Kong? Any experience you can share would be quite helpful.
Thanks,
Aaron

If you are a qualified lawyer, able to practise in HK (e.g. called to bar in UK), you should not have a problem getting HK$80-100k/month, with 8 years experience.
If you are a business consultant, I'm afraid that job definition is rather elastic, so it can be commission-based or project-based.

What do you expect your charge-out rate to be?
Multiply your daily charge-out by 200, which is what your expected annual billings should be. You should be paid one third of your annual billings.
So, if your daily charge out is USD3000, you should expect to earn USD200,000 per annum.

Wow, that's very helpful thanks. I suspect the work will be done on a project basis though.

Honestly, unless you have projects lined up in HK before coming, and/or unless you work in restructuring/bankruptcy law/compliance, I think US$200K is on the optimistic side in current conditions, esp if you are new to HK.
US$100-$150K is more realistic for a legal eagle. Less if one doesn't have a law degree.
