You are NO LONGER employed...therefore your Visa is invalid and BOTH you and your employer have the duty to INFORM immigration; you should convert to a visitor visa status until such time you gain a replacement employment or depart. On re-entering HK, you should enter as a visitor (since you KNOW full well you are no longer an employee).....your passport copy is NO LONGER reality.....not only is this important in complying with your lawful stay it is also very important IF you take on new employment and immigration asks you what you have done since resigning...

Appalled to see the reply from Weir & Associates. But I can assure you that you won't have trouble at immigration because I'm in exactly the same situation. When you find a new job, your new employer need to apply to change the sponsorship for you. That's it

Whats the issue with the Weir reply?

I meant Weir makes it sound so serious as Ethos has done things wrong & something bad will happen at immigration if without a new visitor visa. But actually it's OK as long as the work permit is still valid & many will face the same issue under current envioronment

Weir & Associates handle working visas for some of the largest corporations so one might assume that their advice is correct and that this is a serious matter...

Apart from Green Valleys you are all debating the wrong thing, including Wier. The OP is asking about working visa on the Mainland, not HK. The rules are very different to HK.
Once you quit a job in China your visa becomes invalid AS SOON as the police and PSB have been informed. There is no staying in China until the end of your visa. You must leave China and return WITH another valid Business (F) or Tourist (L) visa.
So please everyone notice that the OP is based in Guangzhou and is talking about the PSB being informed and leaving CHINA! Rules in HK are completely different. I'm surprised that a company "working for some of the largest corporations" were not actually able to read that and to me that is an extreme concern in regard to the company involved.
