Assuming you already installed Japanese language fonts in your computer, all you need to do is press Ctrl Shift in Word to change between languages you have preset.

Correction, what I meant to say was if you've already installed the Language Pack that comes with your Word program CDROMs. You can also go and check Control Panel and choose Date, Time, Language and Regional Options and go from there. There's a setting that lets you add additional languages for typing. Once set, you just open the language options while inside Word (or other typing programs like Excel, Notepad, etc) by pressing Ctrl Shift.

Mine has two different Chinese (China & Taiwan) set in the language although I don't use it at all! And yes, I'm using WinXP English version also.

OK, there are 2 things being talked about here I think! The first is fonts, and that is only for display. The second is for IME which can be downloaded from Microsoft. Download the Japanese IME (Input Method Editor) and away you go.
