New Car - Advice please

Am thinking of getting a new car and I see that many of the ads will say (for example) licensed until 03/09, MOT until 10/09. What is MOT? Does licensed mean registered? I'm sure there is a really simple answer but it's all so new to me I thought I'd just ask. Looked on the Transport website but couldn't find what I was after. May have been looking at the wrong page.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I think you mean purchasing a used car! Huggy is correct, once a car reaches 7 years old from first registration it requires to get an MOT each year. Usually the MOT coincides with the Lic renewal as the MOT must be presented with your insurance and ownership to purchase the new license each year. Some sellers opt to buy a 3 month license if they are going to sell the car therefore the MOT may not coincide.
