Hi all, just wonder if my baby has a really bad immune system or it's normal, but my baby who is 22months old seems to fall sick very very often. It's one thing after another a cold, a cough, gastroenteritis, ear infection etc. It's like he gets one thing, recovers for a day, and then calamity strikes again.

Should i be worried?

Cara, ofcourse i rememebr that your little girl is almost the same age as my lo.

Once a month doesnt seem too bad. Last wednesday he had a runny nose and cold, last saturday we rushed baby to ped'soffice for an infected grommet, then wednesday he starts throwing up, then thursday he has the grommet in the other ear infected....tomorrow it's back to the ped's office.

Yes he was down at the park most of the time, and babies there have runny noses and god knows what. to top it all he's started daycare and it seems to be making everythign worse. It's true that parents here seem less concerned about spreading infections, and send their babies to school anyways, runny nose or not.

Not to mention he's eating less, losing weight and generally getting my anxiety levels off the charts...

the goddess kali - i can understand how you feel. i'm always told by my parents and other parents that kids will get sick all the time especially after they go to school. they are exposed to various bugs and their immune system is developing (doesnt sound good for us parents who have to worry about them all through the night and day). however, they should get sick less as they get older perhaps into their primary.

but if you are seeing the dr. he should be able to tell you whether there is anything serious or not. i guess we should rely on the dr. but i know when my daughter is sick i get so anxious and i want to take her to see the dr. ASAP.

since starting school in october my 27 month keeps getting a runny nose, sometimes i think its an allergy cos it only happens in the morning but then when the clear runny nose turns green and she gets a cough (a lot of phlegm which makes her worse when sleeping and she vomits) then i know its more than that. generallly, if there's green mucus and a cough i dont let her go to school, not only to avoid spreading it to others @ school but also to let her have rest at home too. but i've seen other kids coughing and sneezing all over the place at school and i wonder why the parents dont keep them away (actually the school also tells parents to keep their kids out of school if they are not well).

cara's description is quite right, its cycle which never seems to end!

persevere! (i try to tell myself this too).

flowers-daffodil, thanks, persevere is right!!

I guess the weatehr doesnt help much, being a bit cooler and all. It is painful to watch babies going through various sicknesses. not to mention the disturbed nights.

my 22mth old is sick every 3, sometimes 2 weeks. to the point where we miss so much nursery that I wonder if it's even worth it to pay to go!! lol i heard from a parent with older kids that the snotty sick phase will be over once their immune system is properly developed - which they do through getting sick. The worst part is the older one ALWAYS passes it to the little one and then i get it, then hubby so we are never all healthy!!! someone is always sick!!! take good care everyone!!
