I would like to know if the Hong Kong birth, deaths and marriages registry allows me to search to see if someone has fathered a child in the last 5 years if I know his English, Chinese and ID number? The website isn't very clear. Thank you

hire a PI if you really need to know that badly, I am sure there are ways, application forms for things where he would have had to declare any kids for whatever reason.

erm what makes you think that

Because the OP wants to know if this guy has fathered a child. It's rather obvious the guy hasn't a clue what she's up to, hence the trust issue.

why stop at 5 years? go the whole hog, miss, and check n-16 years back, where n=age of said boyfriend.

I dont think having a previous child is really relevant for divorce purposes, other than trying to establish some kind of pattern of deceit, for which I am sure if that is the state of the relationship there would probably be 1000 different examples the person could use.
Beyond that if you have that kind of trust issue where you feel you need to prove your suspicion, then either your suspicions are correct in which case you are screwed because your spouse has truth issues, or they are incorrect which would again mean you are screwed because you would then have trust issues, and I am really not entirely sure which would be worse.

I disagree. Keeping a previous child's existence secret would be grounds for divorce in my book, especially if his partner has been inadvertently paying maintenance.

I think the poster is female, and I don't think anyone has said hiding a child would not be grounds. The question arises over whether it is worth finding out, Its a no win. ultimately if you are wrong it doesn't say a lot about you as a person, and if you are right, well its oh dear, that is however many years of your life down the toilet with someone who hides material facts from you.
Assuming they are married to begin with or the relationship had endured for a significant period of time, none of which the initial poster has even indicated.

Wouldn't it be best to ask the guy directly ?
Unless the guy fathered a child and had not been informed of it (yet), you should have the most accurate information...
That is, if the potential father has not passed out yet... or is unable to speak for himself (all my sympathies in this case)....
Is it just me or there seem to be much more "trust" issue in HK than in Europe ? (or maybe a bigger social taboo to "confess" the existance of a child from a prior relationship) ?
