I came in to Hong Kong and rented this apartment but not until lately I found the exit of this apartment is blocked and changed to a shower cubicle from the inside, which from the outside one could still see a emergency door will is totally a white elephant...
My family's life is put to extreme danger if anything happen. I am intending to move out of this place although I may breach the contract. Please advise what possibly I could do and I am feeling really uncomfortable with this place.

It sounds as though this is indeed an illegal structure and you can report this to the buildings department as such. (Could take years to process) However, this would have no bearing on your contract. If you agreed to rent the apartment with the shower room then you are obliged to abide by your contract and not doing so will mean that you are in breach.

mmmm..... I wont be able to know the building code as I have just got into HKG when I rent this apartment. The agent and the owner should know exactly what their responsibilities are although its not stipulate in the rental agreement...... I supposed, this is one of the minimal basic that is required.

I understand your frustration, however, I am not sure it is an issue of knowing the building codes, most people who have been here many years don't. It may well be that the landlord has obtained permission to turn the exit into a shower cubicle, doubtful though. In order to know this you will need to report it to the buildings department. Another option is to report it to Fire Services, as it is illegal to block a fire exit. They should issue a notice before implementing a fine and the fine is rather hefty. This will lead to your landlord having to restore the fire exit. Contractually no change to what is stated above. Good luck with it all and I certainly do understand your frustration.
