As a parent I put a lot of trust in the school educating my child. Sadly with the recent events at the GSIS and the temporary move of the primary school to Ma On Shan. (Temporary even though it is going to be for four years.)I am beginning to question this trust and the motives of the school. There have been numerous meetings, consultations, school visits, beautiful artists impressions of the new school and countless words on the web site about this move and the long term benifits it will have.
The one thing that has not been addressed is how this is tearing the school apart and destroying the ethos of the school. The board is adamant that this move must happen even though there is a large parent population that disagrees and wants to help come up with a more palatable solution. There have been accusations, counter accusations, lawyers have gotten involved and even the press has been supplied with articles but I still have the one question
"Why can the board and the parents not come together as a community of rational, intelligent and connected individuals to create a plan that will satisfy all. This should go a long way in returning some of the trust that has been lost?"
I am interested to hear other peoples views on this matter.

grapha,
I sympathize the situation. If the board is so stringent and unwilling to work with parents, is there a reason to stay?
One of the things parents need to consider is whether the quality of the education of this school in the past years (no one will know what will be in the future) warrant putting up with the location of school. If not, if I were the parents, I would consider other schools for my children. In the current climate, I am sure there are plenty of spaces in other international schools.
I would not get stressed out over it. I would rather make it my choice than theirs.

Thank you for the reply. I agree with you on the quality of the education suffering with all of this going on. I am sure that there are numerous parents my self inlcuded who are looking at other options in the international school arena.

Hi my daughter has got admissions into GSIS & ESF Peak. Initially GSIS was my top choice but recently i have heard a lot of negative things abt GSIS but i have not personally met a parent yet who has told me anything negative, its only hearsay from other people, hence I would really like to get an honest opinion from you parents about the school- is it really good, or too pushy, i have heard things like the parent has to put in my effort than the school, my daughter will be starting in Yr1. I have to decide between ESF peak & GSIS this week. Any input will be much appreciated.
I moved to HK only this month so dont know many people.
