The number you are using 2747 5500 is the Marco Polo Club number not Asia Miles - this number is very heavily subscribed and the best time to call is after 10pm and into the night!!

For Asiamiles the number is 2747 3838. I must say I have always been able to get through quickly on this number

Hope this helps

They must have downsized their department because in the past, I had no problem ever getting through and the most I would have to wait is about 5 minutes, but recently it takes ages to get through. I usually call them from my office, put the loudspeaker on, and carry on doing my work until they answer, which can sometimes take an hour. You have to put up with that stupid Cathay Pacific "I can fly" song though, which can be very, very annoying.

Try very early in the morning or late at night and you should get through it's a 24 hour line and everyone is trying in the daytime.

I now call on the way into work - around 7.30am. Generally get through after a few minutes. Will try again tomorrow in the hopes my wait-listed business upgrade has come through for this Saturday...seems unlikely, though given all the CNY trips booked.

The comments by Shoe girl are correct - the level of service does seem to have deteriorated in the recent past, but not through downsizing

When Cathay took back Dragonair all the Dragonair Customer Services - hotlines etc were closed down and are now handled through Cathay / Asiamiles numbers - ie twice the workload for the same number of staff

Upon compalininig about this lack of customer senstivity nad service I am told Cathay are taking steps to improve the service provided - ie increasing the capacity to receive and answer calls, but I must admit my temper is getting more and more frayed the longer this up "grade in service" is taking.

I actually feel very sorry for the person who eventually picks up on my calls because by the time I get to speak to a human being I have been driven totally nuts by the repetetive I can fly music (when in reality I cant 'cus I cant get to speak to anyone to sort out my flights!) that I explode at the first hint of any issue with what I am saying making me qa far more stressful customer to handle!

Surely it cant be too complicated to sort out this out?

Left it late this morning and called at 10.30am. Got through straight away, which was a nice surprise. Didn't get the upgrade though. Rats.

I'm covered for the way back - we managed to upgrade way back in Aug/Sept last year. It was an interesting example of how helpful the Asiamiles people can be. We had booked two separate trips to Bali, one in October and one in January. We were only able to upgrade to business one-way for both trips - out in Oct and back in Feb. I thought we'd get hit for two one-way upgrades, but the nice Asiamiles person was able to turn it into to a return upgrade, thus saving 5,000 miles!

seems faster to exchange miles for goods, sell the goods, then apply to upgrade!

it says on thier website that you can use your asia miles to upgrade on check in now - anyone tried this?

Imagine that you have to be lucky to find an available seat

i have been advised by my travel agent that the worst time to call the hotline is at night or midnight onwards. this is because there are lesser people manning the hotline.

she suggested calling the hotline at starting at 7 am

I agree it's been hard to get through to them, but honestly, longest I had to wait was about 15 minutes, I even timed it. Anyways, this period of time is very bad because it's near CNY, and also most people are now trying to travel, but save money, so think about using their Asiamiles more than before. At least try, not that we are successful most of the time.

I call in the morning, and about 2 am in the morning is good.

No problems getting through, and the service reps are excellent still when you actually do get through.

I agree though I wish they would change the stupid song "I can fly..." when they put you on hold, drives me NUTS!

dadda, i was only commenting based on having the same issues, by the time I added up all the effort (time is money) it was about the same as both are rip offs.

I will also try calling at 7am or 2am in the future instead of during the day.

I also had an error last year doing the same as you and found out later it went through after hours of ringing them. I complained and I guess they still didnt fix it.

Good luck!
