Hi I was wondering if someone could tell what is cheaper. Would it be advisable to follow the regular gas supply for cooking i.e. town gas or the hot plate i.e. electricity. In short gas / electricity which is cheaper in hong kong.

For the electricity, Hong Kong Island side is more expensive than Kowloon side / N.T. side.

Hong Kong side is using "Hongkong Electric" service. Kowloon side and N.T. side is using "CLP" service. Overall, "CLP" is 22% cheaper than "Hongkong Electric" .

In my opinion, you could consider to use town gas if you live in Hong Kong Island side cos the "Hongkong Electric" service is very expensive.

Agreed that gas is definitely cheaper than electricity for cooking. I have found this to be the case in most places I have lived, but especially in HK.

Besides cooking with gas is just nicer. ;)

I find that cooking using the gas bottles is the absolute cheapest! In our new flat, we have gas but it's connected through towngas and not from bottles and it seems very expensive to me!
