Rude taxi drivers.

I hate taxi drivers do not help women with small babies.

The other day, I had to take my son to Dr.

The security of my building called a taxi and they help me to get in it..

When I got the address where I wanted to go to, taxi diver didn't show any interest to help me..

I had to come with 10 months old sick baby and heavy bag. I had to open the front door to take my son's stroller.. As you can imagine I was doing everything with one hand.

While I was trying to open the stroller, i heard that the driver was telling me " hey close the door"

I completely ignored him , the door was not my priority at that moment. He started yelling at me..

I got so annoyed suddenly and told him, he was the one who was supposed to serve, not me..

He was still telling me thr close the door.

I just walked away..

This is not the first time, I had to face this kind of problem in HK.

Why they have no manner in here?

They should cancell their licenses..

I hate going out in HK.

I really do!

I understand your frustrations. They can be quite rude sometimes, especially if it is a short journey. But I wonder why you don't have to put the stroller at the rear compartment of the car as he can charge you $2 to $5 (not sure the exact amount) and he has to get out from the taxi to open the compartment door and also to help with the loading & unloading. Maybe when you put the stroller in the front seat he cannot charge you thus the impolite service although it is not a logical excuse at all for such a bad attitute.

Dear doburke,

Your post sends me wayyyy back to my years as a young mum trying to be as little of a nuisance to others, until I realised: i'm not a nuisance, I'm just loaded with stuff!!

Just a little piece of advice: IGNORE THEM!!! and I refer to rude taxi drivers as well as to anyone who is showing impatience/rudness to mums just because they're in a bad mood ... They're just selfish and conveniently forgetting they were "annoying" children once, too. So, to hell with them! Even if they shout abuse, just ignore them! If you let these people get to you, you'll end up frustrated and miserable ...

Just remember you have as much right to exist as anybody else, and you'll stop feeling guilty about not getting out of the way -or the taxi- fast enough.

As for taxis and strollers, after a couple of months of frantically trying to devise ways to get in and out of taxis as fast as possible, i simply slowed down and accepted it was just not possible anymore to have my change ready and jump out of the taxi as i used to do when it was just me and me handbag.

Here was my strategy: get the bb/child in the back of the taxi (you can lie a new born baby on the seat, he won't roll off), then the bag, then fold the stroller and shove it in the front/boot, and get yourself in. Same order for getting out. Don't get your child out of the car until the stroller is open and ready to receive him, it's safer than standing him on the pavement and keeping an eye on him while you collect the pram and open it. AND TO HELL WITH EVERYBODY ELSE! You don't need to stress anymore than you probably already do about sleeping and feeding patterns just because a couple of people can't wait a minute or two.

Some drivers will help, some won't (in fact, there are some very nice ones who will chat your baby up!), but ignore the obnoxious people. I mean, the world is not going to come to an end if you spend 2 minutes getting out of a taxi instead of 3 seconds, is it?

... Sorry, I'm just ranting now, aren't I?

Agreed with Zorglub. Not your fault some taxi drivers are grumpy. It's their problem. Not yours.

It's 5 and he doesn't have to get out. It's nice for him to do so, but some don't.

I am just starting to use taxi's with a stroller and having the baby in a harness and I have to say, it is not easy. I used to use a baby carseat when a newborn, but he is now getting wayyyy to big and heavy to lug him in a carseat.

I always worry though if when getting out and setting everything up, what if the taxi driver takes off with my baby in the car!!! I'm not sure if it's a paranoid mother thing or not, but it freaks me out.

I find before I get in the taxi, i have everything folded up and ready to go with money in my pocket or holding it ready to pass over.

As for the rushing, completely agree with Zorglub, unfortunately it takes time and the rude, taxi drivers can stick it fair where sun doesn't shine as far as I'm concerned!! It used to bother me, but I find the more stressed and rushed I am, the more I drop things and fumble around.

A bit paranoid yes. I feel confident that this will not happen. Having said that, I do keep the door open (the one without the lever) while I'm setting up.

You don't have to pay HK$5, strollers same as wheel chairs or crutches are free of charge, and true they don't have to help you to take it out.

Taxi drivers can be very rude and they can make you feel very bad, but try to ignore them as much as possible.

i just anticipate they won't help. so i carry my baby in teh baby bjorn so my hands are free. it's still tough, but much easier than having babe in one arm and then trying to handle the bag and stroller.

A suggestion for when the driver tries to drive off before you've properly seatbelted yourself and baby in... put your foot in the door so the driver can't close the door automatically- he won't leave with the door open and he'll just have to wait for you to finish getting organized. I think the drivers can legally charge you for a stroller in the trunk (only wheelchairs, etc. excepted), but they usually don't. And yes, some drivers are helpful, others are not. I usually give a small tip to the drivers who get off their butts to help and just the base fare to the ones that don't. Best to have baby in a hand's free carrier when small and then we used the toddler flight vest once baby was too tall to sit in my lap in the carrier. I would put her in the taxi first (& close the door most of the way so she couldn't escape) before shoving all my other stuff in the taxi. Then I would seatbelt us in with my foot in the door. Worked pretty well.
