Hi,
I need some information urgently regarding UK settlement visa. My wife is British and we are staying in HK. Now we plan to move to UK permanently. Need soem clarification fro teh folowing points:
1. Do we resign from Job before or after application?
2. After approval, can we decide to stay in HK for more time?
3. What is the validity of settlement visa? do we need to move to UK in 28 days after visa iassuance, i heard from my friend that we have to leave within 28 days from visa issuance or else visa will be invalid and we have to reapply.
Thank you very much

Thank you very much.
It means i can go to uk anytime within two years before the expiration. My friend said that they only gove 28 days time to leave for uk, if you fail to do so, your visa is not vaild. He also said that when your visa is approved, they will call you and you have to show them your resignation to make sure that you are set to leave for uk. Since you have applied that visa, pls let me know.
Would appreciate your help

Hey Calvin,
I'm in the process of applying for a settlement visa for my husband (I am British), apart from all the stuff they need proof of, they also let me know not to book any flights as now the processing for these visas has moved to Manila and can take upto 4 months as a guideline!
Its a bummer it takes so long as I was really hoping for us to attend my cousins wedding in July - no hope now:(
Good luck with your application though.

Hey Jack,
I am submitting my application in next wk - still waiting UK bank statement:(
I showed that we are staying with family when we first arrive and will then get our own place after we secure jobs - you don't want to sign a lease then find your ideal job in a diff part of the country!

Hi Dear,
Pls let me know if you got your visa. I applied but they asked me to submit resignation letter since i plan to move permanently. So just wanted to check if you submitted the resignation letter or not

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.
Actually job is not my problem, the only problem is that i dont want to resign from my job right now. I plan to move in November and we have proper accomodation in uk. So just wantde to know whether they asked you to submit resign letter when you applied in Hong Kong or they just did not ask you anything about your Hong Kong job. Please also let me know when you applied, may be you applied long back and now they have make this compulsory to submit resignation letter as well. And do you know anyone who applied settlement visa recently from Hong Kong.
Would need your urgent help on this and thank you very much once again for being so helpful

OK maybe it's me however reading the various web sites has confused me a little. Anyone here recently applied for a UK Settlement Visa? It seems that rules are always changing and I wonder if anyone can provide a simple explanation of the process ie does my spouse need to take an English test and can she still apply at the Consulate or only online? How long does it take? Within what time period does she need to travel to the UK? etc.
