how can you find out if someone is dead?

it might be a weird question, but i wanna know if theres a way u can find out if someone is still alive.


Im renting an apartment and my landlord is ALWAYS in China, she only gave me her HK contact, and when i got a hold of her last time she gave me her email address. I tried to contact her via email but no response. I called her HK no and its voice mail. I cant get a hold of her and a friend suggested in a jokingly manner that she might be dead in China (not very nice but WHAT IF?!) Our contract is going to end and I either want her to lower the rent or i'll move out and find somewhere else.


Another friend suggested not paying until she finds us but i dont feel its the right way, i want to talk to her but i can never reach her....what if she really is dead, well, or maybe stuck in China with an accidents or something...


any suggestion on what i can do?

i would agree with your friend...if that's what it takes to get her attention, it may be your only recourse...of course explain to her the situation via voice mail and that you'll pay immediately when you've heard from her (assuming you do!)

If she's dead, you are still liable for rent to her heirs. If you stop paying rent now, and if she or her heirs contact you as a result, you could lose your deposit.


Keep leaving messages on her voice mail - if she's dead, the inbox will fill up and one day you won't be able to leave msgs.


If you are paying her through a bank account, you can forward a note through her bank to her. If you are paying by cheque, then enclose a letter with the cheque. Good Luck!
