I have one and to be honest am not overly impressed - before I had always used a Kenwood free standing mixer which was excellent. Kitchen Aids are expensive for what they can do (very little other than mixing/beating) and I find the motor gets very hot when using the dough hook. The attachments (grater etc) are pretty poor - very plasticky.
If you are a fan of baking like me a free standing mixer is a must, though if you think you will only use it occasionally, then a Magimix multi purpose food processor may be of more use.
Hope that helps - happy baking!

The Kitchenaid was a gift - because they were cool - admittedly, they do look good! Though no matter how much I wipe it, it never looks clean - the surface smears quite a bit.
