Due to the existing financial crisis I can no longer afford to pay $1000 - 1500 for single process permanent hair color. I want to keep the color the same as it is now minus the grey. Has anyone tried the Toni & Guy Academy? Read an article saying they charge $200 for hair color for students under which is more within my budget. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Even with the financial issues we are all dealing with and understanding people are looking to save where they can are you prepared to sacrifice the quality? I have to say of you are paying $1000 - $1500 just for a single process color you are paying a lot. Even our most senior stylists dont charge that high.
Keep in mind going to this kind of school means, you dont have any guarantee, you dont have the choice to have what you want and in many cases wont get it and the students are useually not experienced with color at all.
There are other alternatives and more experienced salons or stylists who can do single process colore for much less that what you have been paying, this way you have a better chance of getting some quality and save some money.

Local salon can do your hair for less than the 1,500 to 2,000 HKD you pay in T&G...
However these local salons usually offer 2 type of permanent products : the cheaper one, which would be the one advertized as a cheap set (haircut/colour/blowdry for 298HKD) will probably tend to dry out your hair.
Better set for the "more expensive one" which is better for your hair... Costs me about 400 HKD for the whole (colour/cut /moisturizing treatment & blowdry)
Language should not be an issue if, like me, you're just looking for the exact same colour as your initial one....
Otherwise i guess the academy is a v. good idea, i'd say...

Do not worry about going to a training night at T&G, most reputable salons offer this, and are always carefully supervised.
Why not give them a ring and ask whether you can request what you want done, otherwise, phone around other salons, and ask whether they too hold model/training nights.

Actually model or training night are different from the Academy and you will experience different results.
Some international salons do have junior stylists who's prices are also lower than that of the top stylists. At least this way you get some kind of quality assurence from the salon itself.

I agree with Mayita, local salon can do the job. I paid 350 for touch up every 4 weeks (oh ya grey).

Thanks for all your responses. Mayita and jen-mcg sounds like you're in my price range. Could you give me the name of the salons you go to. I would like to give them a try
