Hi- we just moved to Hong Kong 2 weeks ago. I have applied for my HK ID card. What is the best way to get a visa to get into Shenzhen? Do I need one? Also, I have a friend coming from the States next month to visit, how do I get her into Shenzhen? I know she will need a Visa. Is it easiest to apply at the border?

Thanks!

Yes you will need a visa for SZ. If you plan just to go shopping and stay within the SEZ (Special Economic Zone) then you are able to get a single entry visa good for 5 days at the border UNLESS you hold an American passport. You can also apply for a double entry passport at CTS (China Travel Service) or the Chinese consulate in Wan Chai. More info here:http://www.fmcoprc.gov.hk/eng/zgqz/bgfwxx/

Your friend from the states would probably be better off applying in the US for a visa although she will most likely still be able to get one from the Chinese consulate also.
