How important is it to do the patch test? I brought one in Watsons and there's a huge label saying that you have to do a patch test every time you dye your hair at least 48 hours beforehand - is this true, or is it so the companies can just cover themselves just in case?

My hairdresser never does one when I get my hair salon dyed.
