I want to get my hair straightened - totally fed up with the frizzy ball look! I have medium-long hair and want to go somewhere recommended but don't want to pay crazy money for it.
Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Esprit is good but quite expensive as I have done once there on Wednesday promotion. I have just had one done for HK$920 in my hairdresser that i have been with him for 10 yrs! He will show you the product that he uses for hair straightened. It's located in Causeway Bay near Lee Garden. PM me if you're interested.

Petals.. why would you want to take a risk with cheap salons when you are putting chemicals in your hair? I have been going to Esprit.. have done it thrice in 6 years.. you could try their 50% off during weekdays..

Hi RA - its not about going to a cheap salon....its finding one that someone has used and recommends AND doesn't charge a price when they hear an english accent! I went into a couple of small salons in central and when I asked the cost of hair straightening they said a ridiculous price without looking at my hair and didn't even refer to their price list!
Just don't want to be ripped off and can't really afford the top salons that are used by most expats.
having said that Esprit do have the deal which looks good....but what is Power Straighening the lady on reception couldn't answer me and said it last 3 months is that correct?

Petals, may i ask what kind of budget you have in mind? Having western hair you do need to be a little more carefull as both the products and the techniques need to be modified for the hair type.

Petals...since I have wavy hair mine lasted about a year each time. It all depends on what type of hair you have. If you have curly hair, I will not recommend this to you since..even if your hair is straightened, the hair when it grows from your roots, will be curly.Having said that..you could get your roots done whenever you see curly hair. Yes its called Power straightening at Esprit and I would also recommend getting a protein treatment done.

Hi Dman,
I will be going to Hong Kong on March 29 to April 1, both dates inclusive and would like to go for hair rebonding. I have rebonded my hair every 6 months in Bangkok since 2003 and I am quite satisfied with the result. They have used Shiseido and one time, Schwarzkopf rebonding products on my hair.
anyway, I will be staying at the royal plaza in Mongkok, Prince Edward Road and this is my first time in Hong Kong. Could you please advise the best place to go for hair rebonding and what do they call it there in hong kong (because in Bangkok, they call it Straight Perm). BTW, in Philippines, they also do milk rebonding and I have read good reviews about it...do you do that as well there in Hong Kong?

Hi Petals,
I have arrived in HK two months ago. My hair was crazy and fizzy because of the humid weather, I tried to blow dry + iron it everyday but after 5 minutes it was just as I let it dry without doing anything.
So after thinking a lot about it, I decided to make an investment and went to Salon Esprit in Central.
That was one of the best decisions I ever made!!
I spent quite a lot for my standards, 1,699 for pre treatment + power straightening + lotion + haircut (it's a fixed price promotion that they have on the website). Anyway I was completely satisfied with the result!! The treatment should last at least 3 to 6 months, depending on your hair. I did it 2 months ago and still my hair looks perfect.
It was a joy, last night, when I spent some hours on a boat, with the wind, the humidity of the sea and even some rain... and my hair stayed in shape all the time.
Also, they look very healthy (there is only a terrible chemical smell when you wash it for the first two weeks).
Hope this was helpful!
Ari :)

Hi Petals,
I, being an expat, go to a local salon in CSW, with local prices, for colours (everymonth-covering a few greys) and straightening (and now straightening on top, curls at the bottom), every 6 months.
If you wanna read about my experience, following the 1st time i went there, you'll find it on asiaxpat
http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/forums/women-only/threads/112292/japanese-ion-hair-straightening/
If you want more details about the salon, it's in CSW, PM for details.
Also, if you are ready to splash more cash, go for D-Man or Douglas Lillico's advice.
Cheers
mayita

Rachel7,
Well thats a tough one as it really depends on what you want to pay. In HK they usually just call it Japanese Straightening, ony the more international salons will know the rebonding term. Shiseido relaxer is pretty good, we have used it and had pretty good results. There are many straightening or relaxing products on the market these days and all vary in quality. Of course its not always the product, you need to have someone who knows what they are doing to.
The area you are staying is very local and if you want something close by then you might want to try the Esprit salon. It can be a little hit and miss as they do have a high staff turnover but you might just get a good result there. I think its safer than many of the smally local ones around there.
The Milk rebonding is the same kind of process but using a slightly different kind of product.
We have been bringing in some great stuff from the States called Keritin Complec Infusion Therapy (quite a mouth full) and have been really having some excelent results with that to.
I hope that helps a little but let me know if I can help any further.

thanks Dman,
I have decided to go to Th2 instead and look for Maggie as I have seen her profile on the website. Will you be able to give me a price range if I go to Maggie and decide to go for the best product TH2 can offer (so I could bring enough cash with me) I have long hair (1ft below the shoulder line). Otherwise, do you know if they accept credit cards?
