I know this is a tough one, of course home made is best, but if I need to use commercial ones, which brand is better/ ok to use?
eg Nestle, Heinz etc...or do I really need to go for organic brands, thanks

i recently also went to pick out cereals for my baby too.
i chose Healthy Times because the ingredient was whole grain brown rice and it's organic. it also has no sugar and additives. baby tried it and seems to like it, it's very smooth.
i also considered Earth's Best, but somehow chose Healthy Times.
Nestle seems sweet.....i tasted a sample pack.

Actually, commercial rice cereal is iron-fortified, which is very important for babies, do don't feel at all guilty about not making your own [rice by itself isn't iron-rich]. What you want to do is to make sure that the brand you are buying does not have added sugar -- read the label. In the USA, Gerber and Heinz beginning rice cereal are both no sugar added, but on mainland China, they both have refined white sugar as the second ingredient. You can't tell just by tasting -- all rice cereal will seem sweet -- because the starches are partially pre-broken down to make it easier for babies to digest.

We used Earth's Best and my son loved it. We had a few packs of rice cereal samples from Nestle (sugar added and I suppose, not brown rice) which we tried but he didn't like it. Earth's Best tastes much better. It's organic brown rice with no sugar or additives so it's heathier.

We use Healthy Times for our babies- been on them since they were 4-5 months old. It's a brand that is fairly easy to buy - at Eugene and Bumps 2 Babes. They also make cookies which our babies love.
