Good deal on golf holiday

Where can one get a good deal on a week's golf holiday for 2 people? Looking for a hotel with a golf course (not an hour's drive away) + something of interest to break up the golf (one of the golfers is a 12 year old beginner). Went to Kota Kinabalu Rasa Ria ages ago -- was great at the time (OK golf course + orang utans + wonderful hotel, especially the staff), but don't know what it's like now. Also want something reasonably priced -- Cathay Holidays are around 5000 for 2 days. Not particularly interested in a golf holiday in China unless someone has a really good recommendation. Thanks.

We did the Rasa Ria place a year ago and also enjoyed it very much. The course next to the hotel was in very good nick and we weren't obliged to take a caddy with us. My preferred golf break would be to spend a week at Le Meridien in Bali. Nice hotel, reasonably priced (generally get a nice room from USD$120++), nice grounds, pool, food good quality and not excessively priced (beer is a bit steep, though). Next to Tanah Lot temple but a 40-60min to nearest towns. Really excellent golf course - fantastic views of the sea, very well kept, friendly caddies. Half price for hotel guests - around USD$95 for a round per person inc tax, golf cart and caddy (tip another $5-$10). Lessons also very good value there. My wife had some lessons with the head pro - around $22 for an hour or $40 for him to do 18 holes with you. Course is next door to the hotel - 2 minutes in a shuttle.

Thanks for the ideas Dive bum. Will look into Le Meridien Bali. We're looking ideally for a place with an 18 hole course + a 9 hole course (for my daughter, who doesn't yet have a handicap). Know of anywhere?

Le Meridien only has the one 18 hole course but neither my wife or I have a handicap and my wife is very much a beginner. Not a problem at Le Meridien. Only place I've been asked for a handicap cert was a run down course just outside Kota Kinabalu. After a few holes I wished I'd been turned away. Sanur (an hour or so from Le Meridien in Bali) has a nice 9 hole course and I saw some kids playing there. Sanur would also be a good place to stay for a few days. It has a decent beach amongst other things. Le Meridien is by the sea but you can't swim in the sea - very dramatic coastline, rocky and with strong currents. Very nice pool at Le Meridien, though, with a great water slide! You could always split your stay between the two resorts.

Try Pine Valley Sports and country club in Zhuhai. they have an 18 hole course and other activities like fishing, hunting, hiking. See the report from Golf007
