I have a 5 week old baby and would like to buy a baby bjorn for carry her to and from the car to the doctor's clinic, walks, etc. Can anyone recommend a good/reliable/comfy brand? Thanks.

Well, Baby Björn is a brand, ;) And yes it is good. Use of an "upright" carrier like the Baby Björn ones should be limited in the first few months to short periods.
If you get a Baby Björn, get the "Active" or other model with extra back support. Much better.

Yes - don't use the baby carrier until your baby can hold him/herself up - otherwise it's not good for their backs. I have a Baby Bjorn that a friend gave me. You might also want to consider the Ergo baby carrier, which is also apparently quite good. Someone else created a thread about the Ergo so maybe you want to read up on it.

Thank you for your replies. I will also check out the other thread. HF

there are carriers designed to hold an infant in the supine position. We have one (I think the brand was 'Naturesse' or something like that, a Chinese make judging by the quaint English translation on the packaging). We bought it at Jusco, which has many CHN/JAP brands...I think Chicco also makes one that you can rotate while wearing it (not with bb in it of course!) so that you don't have to adjust the straps... ERGO and Bjorn are not suitable for newborns

ERGO and Bjorn are not suitable for newborns
---> the ERGO is perfectly suitable for a newborn but with an additional infant insert.

funbobby/alouette, Thank you. I will make a trip to Jusco and check out Naturesse. HF

yes you can buy the infant insert, but a newborn should not be carried seated until able to sit itself...spinal problems can occur....for the same reason you should use a seated stroller but a fully reclined one for infants

the above are right about ergo - you'll need an insert for little babies til they are 4 months or so. i bought one but never used it, it just looked too hot to use! i survived in a regular bjorn until baby was old enough to use an ergo. while you can only use ergo when baby is older, IMHO it beats bjorn hands down. the support for the parent is so much better and the sleep hood and little pouch for keys/phone etc are sooo useful.
so my advice? borrow a baby bjorn if you don't have one yet and then try ergo when you are older. it's too expensive to buy both!
