Male Ob-Gyn?

Can anyone tell me how they feel about male ob-gyn? I have ever only been seen by female ones but my current one is starting to be too expensive (charged me 4x for medicines & tests than if i source outside) and her clinic hours are reduced to mornings only (I work mornings).


I have heard of some good male doctors but I am not sure how I would feel - mostly embarrassed. Especially now I need to see a gynaecologist for some emabarrasing problem.


Can anyone give me insight on the differences of male & female gynaecologist? How do you feel about asking very private questions? Any comments on Dr. Alex Doo? Can he consult on non-fertility or pregnancy problems?

I have had male gnaecs for both my kids and have been very comfortable with them. I had a female gynaec in the early months of my 1st pregcy and wasn't very happy the way she dealt with it. It maybe becos she being a woman herself, having gone thru the process herself.. treated me very casually. Having said that.. all doctors are different. Both my male gynaecs were very nice and you perceive them just as docs and not men. Bottomline..pregnancy is a long and a life changing process..you should be one u r comfortable with ..the sex of the doc should not matter... Somethings also to consider when u choose ur gynaec is how accessible s/he is to you. Will he answer ur questions when u r going thru a panic moment? will s/he call u back when u leave a message? what hospital is the doc associated with? whether s/he is associated with the hospital of your choice?

I went with Dr Phillip Ho, he sits in Hing Wai bldg, Central, offers pregnancy pkgs and is associated with Matilda. He also consults on fertility issues.

I felt the same way about going to see a male gyn/ob until about 2 years ago. In fact, all my life I have only seen female doctors (even GPs have been female). However, I started going to Dr. Philip Ho for fertility help and when I got pregnant I stayed with him as my ob. I have overcome my shyness and would highly recommend Dr. Ho. He is very professional and knowledeable.
