I've been hearing alot from working mums about quiting their jobs so they can go back and takecare for their kids because they've just gone uncontrollable or mischief in some ways that really bothers them. Those I've heard from are mums with kids around 4-9 yrs of age and the mother have gone back to work ever since they were born. So my concern is will a child really turn out .....well bad if their mother is not around them say before ...age 5?? i dont know........i'm thinking of going back into the workforce but am afraid I'll end up like those current mum's who need to quit and go back to square one again....when is the best time to go back to work for a mother? (not taking into account the current global financial situation or the need for money.....just yet...)

I don't think there's a "correct" answer to this question. It depends on your personality, your financial situation, your family situation, your career.

Kids being "bad" can happen to mothers who went back to work at 4 weeks or 4 years. Depends on other factors. The important thing is to spend quality time with the kids when one is off work. "Absent parents" can be absent even if stay at home.

Resuming a career is of course easy if you go back to work sooner, but certainly plenty of mothers can go back to work after years and only play catchup for a while.

Sorry AKKY I'm not giving any advice here. I just want to share that I'm in an opposite situation where I'm thinking whether to quit my job after #2 is born later this year. Hubby is pretty supportive on whatever decision I make. But I get quite some pressure from my parents who think I should stay in the workforce in view of the current economic situation, plus mine is a decent stable 9-6 job...

I don't know whether kids will turn "bad" if their mother is not around when they are young. I only know I want to spend as much time with them as possible when they are young. But if I go jobless, I will have to fight against the guilt for putting more financial burden on hubby's shoulders, and not being able to pay as much to my parents.

Maybe I can go back to work after some years if necessary, if I ever want to go back, or if anyone ever wants to hire me back. Working vs not working is always such a dilemma for us.

I think the important is whether you can really spend valuable time to your kids ~ you know how to teach them~ some kids also turn "bad" even the mum always stay with them ~ what have u to consider is ~ do you think you will teach them well when you stay with them ? because a friend said if she doesn't work . she will get crazy when facing her kids ahaha.. so my friend would choose to work instead of take care her kids
