Dehumidifiers - which one?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good reliable Dehumidifier that doesn't cost a fortune. I've been to Fortress but the Sales Assistants completely bamboozled me.

I really just need it to take the moisture out of the air - no need for special features like ioniser, etc.

Any suggestions for what I should be looking for?

Thanks

Depending on the size of the area you want to de-humidify, there are various models around. Also look at the other stores such as Wing On, Sogo, Broadway and B&Q etc. I use a hefty Zanussi for my big lounge room and small basic Fortress own-brand ones for bedrooms. They work fine, 'though one Fortress unit packed up after 2 years' hard labour. I've also seen very cheap models, i.e. around $800, on offer in Wellcome & Park & Shop recently - I've no idea of the quality but I guess they do the job, and they say on the packaging that they're quiet.

Three features to look for:

- Big tank. 3-4 liters at least. That way you will have to empty it less often.

- As silent as you can afford.

- Provision to attach a hose that bypasses the tank. That way you can leave it running while you are away. Ensures the home is nice and dry even in the middle of summer, so much less risk of mold, and you don't have to run the A/C while you are away.
