I suggest you check with the immigration department regarding your working status in HK. Dependents are not automatically allowed to work here...

Hi, most "good" local handymen charge $360-400 per hour. I believe expat handymen may charge a bit more, according to someone who's hired both. My handyman tells me business is down because of the economy, but people do always need help with the funny construction of apts here.

I believe all appliances here work on 220, some between 220 -240v. I brought my drill from the US and use it with a big 3000w step-down transformer on wheels (weighs 30 lbs.), but I don't think that would be a good solution outside of small jobs in your house.

Sheung Wan residential options tend to be older and more crowded, most of it is busy commercial area. It depends where (building specific) you're looking, how convenient it is to the MTR/other transport, and really what you are looking for in a home/neighborhood. The area "above" it going up hill is Sai Ying Pun, and that has more residential options.

Thanks IHRN we like Sheung Wan because missus is working in discovery bay so near ferry is a must. Are there good food/shopping areas in this area? Really keen to sample local culture
