Foreign Lawyers can work in HK but can't practice HK law unless they are HK qualified. They can practice foreign law. Used to be easy - Brit lawyers rides into town and HK law society doffs cap and certifies them as HK qualified. These days you need to pass some of the HK exams to become HK qualified. I also think you need a few years' experience before you can sit them. Should be very easy for your daughter to establish what she can/can't do by doing some surfing.

I should add that it's much easier for an HK qualified lawyer to work in the UK (and possibly other Common Law jurisdictions) - I don't believe they need to pass any exams to become UK qualified once they are HK qualified.

Thank you for your feedbacks. My daughter will be graduating with a double degree in law and science from the University of Melbourne. She has done her homework and realises that it is difficult to work here without going through exams that have a very high failure rate. She is a HK permanent resident.
