Hi, there. If you have a valid driver license from other country, you can do to Union Center of Admirlty to request a driver license change. It will take a week and HK$900 to get your HK license without any driving test.

I just got mine with my PA license.

Not all countries though. Form TD 063A specifies which countries are eligible: http://www.td.gov.hk/public_forms/td_forms/driving_licence/index.htm

well the driving test involves you driving and the tester / marker sitting with you without the instructor. the marker /tester will remain silent throughout the whole test so you wouldnt have a clue as to what points he is marking

my tip is for you to practice driving without the instructor talking throughout, and then ask the instructor to give you an assesment only after.

sometimes we get used to the instructor giving us instruction while we practice that it is un nerving to have someone aside from the instructor monitoring your every move.

You have to convince the examiner that your driving is up to Hong Kong standards. Therefore, you must:

Studiously ignore every other vehicle on the road

Don't, in any circumstance, stray into the inner lane on a roundabout.

You will get marks deducted if you use your indicators when switching lanes and will earn extra marks if you automatically put your hazard lights whenever you slow down or stop

In slow traffic you must under not allow a vehicle in the next lane to move over in front of you.

If you realise that you need to change lanes you must do so at once. The other vehicles will make way for you

The key is to have excessive confidence in your ability to control a vehicle, coupled with little regard for safety.

(Sorry! I was being facetious and unhelpful and am aware that Ed will probably ban me for posting this...)

Aaaaaah, for the good old days, when rich daddy bought his kids a new car and driver's licence for their 21st birthday present.

The ICAC ruined all that.

Thames, I'm afraid you are completely right... Tomorrow I would have driving test for the second time... (after 15-years driving experience in non-listing country). Now I don't have even temporary license...
