Last week I was so down I posted a thread for some support (Feeling Alone). My ob-gyn told me I had HPV warts and to top, I might be pregnant. This caused me a weekend of tears & worries. It strained my relationship w/ my husband (who denied any wrongdoing) and made me wish I am not pregnant (we have been trying for months!). I was confused, scared & in pain.
I must have already been harbouring doubts w/ my ob-gyn - I tested negative for pap smear & cervical smear which the the ob-gyn took a month ago, plus the excessive charges & mornings-only clinic hrs - that I looked for a 2nd opinion Monday morning.
It must be fate. The new Dr. took a blood test for pregnancy instead of waiting 2 weeks as the other Dr wanted. Gave me a check-up in the same way as the other Dr. and said it's not HPV, it's just a very bad case of thrush (yeast infection). Even before he checked me up, just hearing me recount my past month of taking antibiotics (which my old dr. prescribed), he already had suspicions that it was thrush.
How could my old Dr. have missed that? The new Dr. said my old one is predisposed to diagnose warts ( I suppose I am not the 1st patient who got a 2nd opinion?).
Needless to say, I am not going back to my old Dr. - even hinted that my husband, might be taking afternoon trips to Shenzhen.
I am pregnant, happy and confident that my new Dr. will take care of me & the baby w/o jumping to conlusions (he took a swab test to confirm my infection, which my old Dr should've done).
I hope this is a lesson for everyone who reads this. Trust your body & seek a 2nd opinion if it's a major issue. Drs. don't know everything.

Congratulations...and I am so happy about your result now. I remember reading your previous post and wondering what your next course of action would be. You sure did the right thing in getting a second opinion. We usually trust our doctors blindly .. this surely is a lesson for all of us to challenge and question our doctors , trust our bodies and our husbands.
I think you should also confront your previous doctor and tell him about your current results. This will atleast make the 1st doc think twice before repeating the same mistake and making someone else's life miserable. I don't know if there is a medical association where you could report him. ..every drop counts..

I am so happy for your update! I had a very similar experience back in the U.S. several years ago and it was very upsetting to say the least! It seems that many doctors are very inexperienced when dealing with the whole HPV thing. The doctor I went to told me things that I knew were not true, but I kept my mouth shut since she was the "expert". I was kicking myself for years after that I did not speak up. Best of luck with your pregnancy!!

i think its always safer to get second opinion from another doctor and another testing.
