Bit of an open ended question really as you could be talking about anything from an A-Class through to an SLR.

It would depend on what your requirements are, are you looking small / big, what's the budget, etc.

Big enough for kids to sit in back but don't want too big. Price target is variable- looking for used and can pay 150 - 300K. 4 door. not convertible. not suv

Sounds like you want a C class or an E class, or possibly an A class.

The C class is the entry level sedan. The E class is the "medium" sedan. The A class is the compact family car.

At the bottom of the Mercedes Wikipedia articles there is a table with all the series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_C-Class

Well then probably the C-Class would be the best suited. C180 / C200 Kompressors are good value, are very reliable and relatively economical with more than enough power for HK roads. C240 is probably a more relaxed drive with a v6 engine.

Your budget is also enough for an E-Class although these can be a bit large in some areas of HK when you are trying to park. However that doesn't people from driving huge S-Class's around.........

Thanks for that tip- which E series are good? And which C do you recommend?

"Thanks- which E series or C series do you like?"

The bigger the number the bigger the displacement. I would say the six cylinders like the 240 and 320 are good in HK due to all the hills. The extra torque makes for a smoother ride.

For C-class I would recommend C200 Kompressor or C240 V6. Both are refined and nice drive - the C240 as I mentioned before is a little more relaxed to drive.

For E-class has to be at least the E240, it's quite a heavy car, the E320 is a nicer drive.

Mr Smith- you agree on the C240 or think a Lexus or BMW better?

What price do these C240 or E240s go for? Is C240 strong enough for hills?

BMW vs. Mercedes. A matter of taste.

"Is C240 strong enough for hills?"

Of course it's strong enough to actually make it up. The question is how smooth it will be. The less torque, the more likely the gearbox will need to shift down, resulting in a slightly less smooth ride. Of course, the C is lighter than the E so a smaller engine is "enough".

Where is the best bargain to look for the C240 or other models? Are car prices still falling fast?

Try the automaills in Wan Chai and HITEC Kowloon Bay. Also Vin's Motors.

Try the classifieds here too, a C320 or E320 would be a nice drive with plenty of power. Just make you you get an expert to have a look at it. Use the one advertise here europrestige.com.hk, they only charge $650 for a inspection.

If you can, you'd be better off with the E Class, and as already stated, a six cylinder. Build quality of the C is questionable as they are assembled in South Africa. The E is still built in Germany so its still a 'true' Benz!
