Hi Everyone,
Our son is 11 weeks old. Since he was 3.5 weeks old he has been sleeping in our bed. It worked out better for both us and him. He has been doing 5-6 hrs at-a-strech sleep from 7/8th week. And sleeps rights back on most nights after his 2:30 - 3:00 AM feed. He is exclusively breast fed so i am not expecting more than that till solids start.
I am getting a bit nervous about his transition to the crib. As much as we love co-sleeping, I am scared it shouldnt kill any chances of him being able to sleep independantly later on.
Has anyone made successful transitions? What would be a good age to start ? What would be the best way to do it ? Any advice would be really appreciated... since I do not want to adopt CIO if it can be helped.
Thanks,
Shuchi

Hi Shuchi,
We transfered our son from our bed to the crib at week 12. Give it a shot. What is the max that can happen? Either he will protest or he will do what our son did- slept as well! Do it sooner than later, he might protest less- I think he slept better since he wasn't moving anymore with the bed every time my husband turned a side. I slept better too since I didn't need to have one eye open all the time worrying about him getting squashed. I really enjoyed co sleeping btw. We still get him from his crib in the morning and snuggle up like old times....
Since you are worried- keep your worn tshirt next to him so he has your smell. Make sure he is nice and cosy (swaddled perhaps) like he probably he was while co-sleeping. Keep his crib in your room so that he can still hear your breathing and is reassured by it. When we moved him to his room at week 15... we again didn't have any problem... I think he was relieved that he didn't need to hear any snoring!:)

Thanks sa... That was very helpful.
We have decided to start him on the crib and place the crib next to the bed as close as possible. Lets see how it goes.
Cheers
