just wonder where to buy short simple story books for two year olds.

when i was a child my mom got me a lot of books that were really simple to read. We were living in the UK then.

I just dont know where to find books like that in HK. The ones i see in page one are expensive and the concepts are too complicated.

Hi Amandele,

Thanks for your answer. I would love to join a local library, but cant as i dont reside in HK. I am in SZ, so not so many libraries to choose from here.

Could you tell me where you buy the books from?

thanks.

I agree that it sometimes seem to be the pictures they love more than the storylines. My 20 month old is happy to sit through some very complex books as long as there are interesting items that he can point to (so that I have to name them). I also tend to go for rhyming books. He loves The Very Hungry Caterpillar (quite simple), Dr Suess, and anything with pictures animals and/or vehicles. We also love anything by Lynley Dodd (the Hairy Maclary series) which are beautifully illustrated and have lovely, catchy rhymes. All kids seem to love them.

We buy most of our books at Dymocks. They have a children's bookstore in Sha Tin (if you come over to HK). I have to say though I don't normally check the price before I buy them so they may be expensive.

What about trying Amazon?

Thanks Amandale, 'll ahve a look around SZ to see if i can find the osborne books.

jwng, and katie fran: i will checkout b2b and dymocks tomorrow as i'll be in HK.

we lived in the UK when i was a young child and my mum used to get me books from the supermarket. they were really inexpensive and always a treat. My baby loves books and though i have no objection buying htem, they always seem rather pricey in Hk.

amazon: hmmm would rather look, choose and buy for kids books.

Hi Goddess - i live in HK but i still order all my kids' book on Amazon in UK - much cheaper even with shipping and comes pretty quickly. As for books - i second ALL of Julia Donaldson books - mine two love it! As for Ushborne series - we had them - they are for younger kids - kids at 2 kind of get bored with it very quickly.

Agree, any of the Julia donaldson books, i.e The gruffalo, The Smartest giant in town, Monkey Puzzle. The Ahlbergs - Peepo, and Each, Peach, pear plum. Also the books by Giles Andreae and david wojtowcyz, Commotion in the Ocean, Runble in the jungle, Farmyard hullabaloo. These are also rhyming books which my kids loved, mu youngest still enjoys reading them herself and she's 7 now.

They also liked the Little bear stories by martin Waddell, and books based on the tweenies.

I really like the Pollux bookstore in IFC (it's next to the airport check-in on the G/F) in Central. They have a terrific selection and prices are cheaper in general than Dymocks, Bookazine etc.

Another author that's great for little ones is Sandra Boynton. Also her books come in the boardbook format which is great for chubby lil toddler fingers.
