Am currently on HK Island thinking of moving to Sai Kung or CWB. Our helper is live out and lives in a boarding house on the island, and obviously if we went to Sai Kung it would be too far to commute. I'm really not keen on having a live in helper, can helpers live out up there, would she be able to find anywhere? Very grateful for any advice. many thanks

Hi hkjane, yes there are 'boarding houses' in SK/CWB and I have a number of friends out here who provide accom for their helpers outside of their home. Not a good idea to mention specific locations however your helper shouldn't have too much difficulty in 'finding out' if she asks around in SK Town if you come over with her in advance.

Oh that's great news skylight, I always had the impression that it wasn't possible. I've never fancied the idea of a live in and some of the helper rooms I've seen up there anyway are even worse than HK island, I seriously think someone would suffocate in there.............

Well, it is illegal unless your apartment is really really small and you get an exemption or your helper is a resident.
