Can anyone please recommend a good audio converter program that goes from MP3 to WAV? I tried making a CD from a program called NCH Switch Sound but it didn't work well...BTW, do these programs work?? I want to make quality, old-fashioned CDs from music I have in an MP3 format. Many thanks!! Merlina

Nero Burning ROM works fine. Create a new Audio CD in the program and drag your MP3s to it. Then burn it and you'll have your audio CD.
http://www.nero.com/ena/nero9-introduction.html . There's a free trial. Also, it comes bundled with many DVD burners. Buying a DVD burner with NERO bundled tends to cost about half of the program's list price so it's a good deal.
Nero is also a great DVD/CD burning program in general. Just make sure you only install "Nero Burning ROM" and not all the other bloatware that comes with it.

Many thanks! I have Nero "Start Smart" 7 on my computer and I did use it to burn a CD in MP3 format...but I don't see how I can change the format to WAV. I will try now...But, tell me, please, do these programs work? Will music converted from MP3 to WAV sound alright? (Someone told me they don't but I can't seem to find anything written on the subject.)
Thanks again, Merlina

Nero Smart Start is the portal/hub for Nero apps. If you go from there to CD/DVD burning, you are actually using Nero Burning Rom.
You don't really need to change the format to Wav by yourself. If you create an Audio CD in Nero, then drag songs into it, they will be converted automatically.
As for sound quality, it all depends on the quality of the MP3 you are using. Having said that, I have made lots of audio CDs this way and the quality is more than good enough for me. It's a very subjective thing. The software you use doesn't really have an impact.

Thank you so much for replying. I've gotten as far as switching the format to WAV on my hard drive but I can't seem to burn a CD from those files that will work on my regular CD player.
I don't know why. Do you?? Could it be my actual CD? One prompt told me to lower the speed with which I was recording, which I did. But it still won't play on the regular CD player. Hmmm....
Any assistant you could offer would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Merlina

Many regular CD players don't like burned CDs. Can you play the CD in your computer's drive? You might also want to try some other player.
You don't need to convert to wav explicitly. Nero will burn an Audio CD directly from your MP3 files, as long as you specify you are burning an Audio CD.

Indeed. Audio files on an audio CD are in another format, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

I've still got problems....Last night, a friend helped me burn my WAV-format CD in Nero to see if another disc would play in a regular CD-player. But no. It won't play...in fact, the two CD-players we have in the house won't even read it. Yet, his newer CD/DVD player plays it just fine. Do you think my problem is with the CD-players themselves? Will older CD-players just not play burned CDs? All advice is appreciated.
Many thanks!

First of all, why are you using Wav? You need to use "Audio CD" in Nero. Otherwise you are not creating a "regular audio CD" in same format as a store bought one.
"Will older CD-players just not play burned CDs?"
It's a bit hit and miss actually.

Thanks for that....the Wav-format CD we burned last night was indeed burned in Nero as an Audio CD yet it still doesn't play in our CD players. That's why I think the problem, perhaps, rests with the players themselves. Do you agree?
Best,
Merlina

In that case, yes I agree.

Many thanks, to you both.
Here's the update, part good news, part bad news: I burned a new CD last night on Nero straight from my original MP3 disc. To my delight, it played on my regular CD player....except for several tracks that wouldn't play at all. Of those tracks, two wouldn't play in my computer, either, but the others would.
Now what? Does the Nero not always burn right? I can see in the computer that all the 10 tracks were burned though, as I mentioned, you can't hear the sound at all on two, neither in the computer nor in the regular CD player. And why would the other "silent" tracks play on the computer but not on the regular CD player? Grrrrr!! This is a tad frustrating...
Any advice? Thanks to you, I'm making progress. But, as you can tell, I'm not there yet...
Again, many thanks for your help.
All best,
Merlina

So what am I to do? Are you saying it's not possible to burn an MP3 CD to a format that will play on a CD music player?
In advance, many thanks for your help.
(BTW, does GreenCatalonia mean que usted habla castellano o catalan?)
All best,

Sure, some players, especially many new ones, can play MP3 CDs.
