Which is the best beach for swimming on Hong Kong island? Cleanliness, etc.?

Shek O beaches are pretty nice. Far from urbanization. Also South Bay Beach.

Definitely Shek O. Wander into the village - there are some nice little places for lunch

I find Big Wave Bay (near Shek O) the best one. Doesn't get as crowded as Shek O and has a decent beach cafe for snacks and drinks etc..

Shek O is okay but at times can get drift and debris from Kowloon and outside, To Tei Wan is a bit better but one has to negotiatie the steps and the beach is a bit pebblely though the best beaches in HK are in Sai Kung and Clearwater Bay

Shek O most definitely : great sand quality, clean water, lots of eateries around, can rent lots of water sports stuff from the shops nearby, excellent connectivity by minibus/citybus...one of our favourite place to spend a day when the weather is nice.

I prefer Big Wave bay to Shek O, but the Chinese and Thai beach restaurant in Shek O is the best place to eat.
