1 cent fee for using your own bag at Parknshop?

Recently I came to notice that I am being charged HKD0.01 for using my own bag. I experimented over the weekend by not bringing a bag and used their plastic and this time I was not charged. Both my helper and I tried to ask the people why we were charged for using our own bag but not theirs at the store but they did not understand our question as we do not speak Chinese. Does anyone know the reason behind this new policy? Thanks,

I have to say in this instance I disagree with axpatguy. It is all too easy to just accept or go else where, don't! stand up for what is right! It is not correct that you are charged HKD0.01 for using your own bag, you should be getting a discount of HKD0.01 for using your own bag. The idea is to encourage customers to use thier own bags to help the enviornment. Guess they have got it wrongly programmed in their till system like many of their other charges. It is an everyday occurance to be overcharged in these particular stores, albeit they are happy to give you a refund but it should not happen in the first place so be sure to check all your reciepts.


I have to commend the consumer council for all their hard work with this store at the moment, I understood that many of the prices were raised by 50% because of the exchange rate, but now its gone down there is no reduction in prices. The yellow label business is shocking.


Pick up the phone and report this - Call the MD Philippe Giard on 2606 8833. Whilst no one complains about these unfair practices then these companies will get away with it. Good Luck!

just a thought, but we don't have a one cent coin... so do you get charged 10 cents or does it round down to zero?


I wouldn't be surprised if it rounds down to zero (so you are not charged) but so that they can keep track of the number of people who bring their own bags.... having said that I also wouldn't be surprised if it rounds up to 10.

Thank you for replies. I did not think of it as their system error but that makes sense - I will point that out to the manager next time. On rounding, what it does is it rounds down to nearest 10 cents but if what you bought by weight is 9cents, then adding the 1 cent on bag actually causes the round up. That is actually how I noticed the charge.
