Recently moved and wondering if I should use tap water for cooking.

Found that tap water taste a bit funny when I brush my teeth.

In my country, tap water is safe for cooking and drinking though peple still pay for drinking water.

Any water company I can order in English???

Watson's Water has dispensers and so forth. http://www.watsons-water.com.hk/ . You can do it all online in English.

Even though it is "safe" (as in bacteriologically), we don't use tap water for cooking. The pipes in many areas are old and there is some metal residue in the water. You'll find a variety of opinions on this one though.

We've always used tap water for cooking, washing veg etc. Never been a problem. And now we have a filter on one small tap for drinking, its great, saves us about $12,000 a year in drinking water.

"Any water company I can order in English???"

I just wanted to add that I have yet to find somewhere I need to order stuff where they can't find someone who speaks English. It might be severely broken English, but communication is achieved. Watson's Water is just fine on the phone for English.

We always use tap water. We have a panasonic water filter and its very good. Never had any problems with it or the cartriges. We always boil the water then drink it (they say its very good for the body) and use it for cooking too. Its much cheaper than buying bottled water.

Just one thing, some buildings maybe old. The water pipes or the tanks may be rusted. We can never know. Luckily our building was just renovated and i saw the difference in the water filter how dirty the water used to be when it was using the old pipes. And now its much much cleaner and better. Thanks God!

Guess everyone had their own experiences too.

"I always used it for cooking and my Dr told me it was OK to drink but still purchased it (we were in DB). But I brushed my teeth with it and gave it to the cat to drink and she didn't fall over dead!"

I don't think anyone is claiming it's poisonous or has bacteria in it. However, with old pipes comes metal residue, which, long term, can in some cases cause damage. For example you wouldn't want your kids to be exposed to lead, even small doses. These things don't show up short term.

A good water filter will catch residue of course.
