Changing Table

ORIGINAL POST

My daughter is almost 3 months old and so far we have been using the guest bed (with a changing mat) to change her. However, after 3 months my back is starting to hurt. I was wondering if I should get a changing table. Any recommendations on a durable and reasonably priced changing table? Thanks for your help.

To save your back the pain, it is worth getting one. We bought the chest of drawers with fold out top that becomes a change table from Ikea, definitely a great investment, saves space. I'm not sure if they have that style anymore, but they do have some. If you do buy one, don't go for the one with the bath built in, it's more of a hinderance from personal experience with my 1st baby.

the main thing to look for is sturdy, maybe with drawers or a shelf underneath to store things. Again the chest of drawers with table on top is a great spacesaver.

Oh, don't go for the side-change if you can help it, it's much easier to change baby front on, obviously that is personal preference. But once they start trying to roll about it's a nightmare trying to change them side on.

good luck!

Since your baby is alrady 3 months old, very soon, maybe in 1/2 month to a month time she will be rolling over so it will be hard to change her on changing table. My baby start to roll over at 3.5 months himself and I got used to sit on the bed to change my baby so i did not end up getting one.

IKEA has several good ones. Stable, good value.

I second that. Front on is better.

It's not hard at all. We had no problem changing our kids on a changing table right up until they stopped using diapers during daytime, at two years of age. You should never let your eyes off the child when he/she is on the changing table. Once he/she is old enough, you can also tell him/her not to roll, and enforce that.

I have no problem with side on change table - just what you get used to. You'll need to be able to change from the side on a plane if you are travelling with the baby so try and be adaptable. Having said that, I can now only change from the same side as my change table faces - not the other side! My baby is now 14 months and rolling is not a problem as I keep a close eye on him. He is starting to sit up which is worse than rolling.
