I know of a man that married in HK and then married another woman in China, and subsequently somehow got a HK ID for that woman and brought her to HK - so he has 2 wifes.

Is that illegal under HK law? And can a relative (not his first wife) bring him to justice?

Yes and yes.

However marriages are all dealt with through the immigration department anyway, so firstly is he still married in HK and secondly it is not that easy to get a mainland person into HK even through marriage.

Yes he is still married in HK. What would it take to rat on him? Go to the police or immigration dept?

The other thing is that i think HK people think its a sign of prosperity. U see in the gossip magazines Stanley Ho and his 4 wifes - so glamourous!

No they do not, most hate this old tradition that has thankfully died out many years ago.

Is this guy a local PR? If that is the case then he would have to wait several years to get an ID card for a mainland wife. So that doesn't quite stack up. As I say this is dealt with via Immigration department so the only way this guy would have done this, as he has to use ID number to get married anyway, is by using a false name and ID number for one of his marriages. Call both the Police and Immigration as this is far more than bigamy.

Yes he is a local PR. He might have only married his second wife in China, then brought her to HK by giving her $5 million - temporarily, just to get the ID card. He is still married to his first wife in HK anyway. So his only crime is against China marriage law.

Well if he is married to both women it's easy enough to report to immigration, or the police. You can do this online and you don't even have to give your name. It is against the law in HK period. However if she has come into HK with investment money how do you know they are married? She is here via another method of immigration.

Sorry, but something in this story really does not add up.

He's married to his first wife in HK. Then he married his second wife in China. Then he brought 2nd wife from China to HK via investment method. Both wifes are alive and living in HK.

But i dont think he and second wife got married in HK, so immigration would not have record of them being married, only that second wife came here via investment method.

Question is: what happens after Wife No1 dies? Is he off the hook?

Look you are going around in circles here. Bigamy is illegal in HK. It is illegal in China. If it is ever found out by either then the guy is in big trouble. If first wife dies, second wife will not be entitled to anything as she can never be registered as a wife here in HK, in fact she could never marry the guy here in HK as she would have to produce documentation she cannot provide from China.

With immigration becoming more integrated it's only a matter of time anyway before he is found out - then his problems will begin.
