Turning negatives to digital images

ORIGINAL POST

I have searched around most of the camera and sound and audio shops in HK but to no avail.

I am looking for a machine that can turn negatives and slides into digital images. Some examples of the machines can be found on the links below.

If anyone knows where I can get one in HK within the next week, that would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance!!!

empee00,

These are available in computer centers. Please try The Wanchai computer center, above the Wanchai MTRC Station. Alternative is the CWB Windsor House.

Better to get the transfer done professionally as these negative scanners (decent ones) cost a lot.

Once transferred to new media make sue you duplicate and mark one ARCHIVE (for storage) and the other WORKING.

Negative scanners are not too expensive now that everyone has digital cameras. A good one can set you back $3-4k. Nikon makes a good one. But if you do not want the hassle, then simply bring your negs into any photodeveloper and they can dump it onto a disc for you. Mind you the quality of the files are not that great, a home scan would give you better quality unless you went to a professional photography place.

i used the place in stanley plaza to get all my negs scaned (hundreds of films). i was happy with the result and MUCH faster than trying to do it at home.

cost about HKD 30 per film i think (but the time of trying to do that myself would probably cost more). took a few weeks to get them all done (i dropped them off in bundles of 20 just in case something went wrong). i did some at photomax also but the quality wasn't as good.
