i got a hair colour yesterday. i didn't want it too light, and i wanted something different, perhaps make my hair look more shiny. anyway, did it, and there is absolutely no difference! the hairdresser said it will take 2 weeks to lighten.

what the?!

this is the first time i've coloured my hair entirely so i'm not sure of what to expect. but this seems a little strange.

advice please!

Hi turquoiseblue

It sounds like based on your above description, that the stylist might have applied a conditioning colour. this certainly helps with making the hair more shiny, but doesn't help change the colour lighter.

If they had applied a tint, then obviously they did not lift your hair enough shades higher for you to see the difference.

The best advise is for you to go back [if you feel comfortable with them] and explain why you are dis-satisfied. I am sure they will be happy to try their best to give you what you want.

One word of caution though. As the initial colour has recently been applied, you might want to wait a month first to allow it to naturally fade out, otherwise they might have to remove it before they can re- apply a fresh tone. A professional hair dresser will be able to do this without too much harm to your hair.

turquoiseblue,

philip has good avice, best thing is to go back to the salon and let them know the situation and they should be able to do something for you. I would suggest you do this ASAP.

if the color they used is not a 'permanent' color then it should be pretty easy to re-do and give you something a little different.

thanks very much. i will go back in a couple of weeks if the colour does not show. they are a well known salon (perhaps they start with T and G), so i'm sure they will be accommodating.

I would not count on the accomodating part. The problem is if you wait to long they may not take responsiblity for re-doing it. Even if you dont do anything now you should at least let them know your concerns.

The fact that they mentioned the color will get lighter and show in a couple of weeks does not really make much sense unless they colored your hair darker and are expecting it to fade and if that was the case you would be able to notice some difference.

I do hope it works out.
