I live in a ground floor flat close to the country and have big problems with, literally, a cloud of mosquitoes buzzing around my door at dusk.
I'm assuming they're attracted to carbon dioxide build up in the flat but even if I've been out all day, I come home to the cloud hovering around my door.
Are there any plants that provide repellent properties?
I'm thinking plants because lighting a coil is too late, having an electric zapper on all day waiting for my return is not cost effective or particularly green and I cannot afford one of the big, gas units.
It's a problem because I inevitably end up with a dozen uninvited mozzies in the living room during the evening and I also have a couple of dogs in the yard that like to hang out by the door.

- Citronella plants repel mozzies. A bit.
- Get screen windows/doors.
- Fans make it very hard for mozzies to fly.

I'll look into citronella plants, thanks.
Unfortunately, I can't really have a fan blowing outside my front door all day and a door screen is as effective as a door when it's opened.
It would be nice to repel them from the area so the dogs don't get bothered as much.

I meant more like a ceiling fan in the house. Even if the mosquitoes are inside, if you're under the fan they can't, or at least not very well. Cuts down mightily on the bites.

I don't have a problem with the bites.
Never mind...

Do you carry a can of spray everyday with you for when you return home?
Thanks for your comment...
Thanks, Telemundo. I'll check into that but don't really want a device that needs to be drawing power throughout the day to do it's short term job.
What I wanted was people's experience with plant repellents and how effective they are. I don't want chemical sprays, etc, etc because of the dogs and because of the environment. Thank you.

I have the same problem, only the mosquitos come through my windows and balcony door if I keep them open, no matter day or night, it's a real pest.
I am looking to buy some mosquito nets so I can keep the windows open but wasn't successful in locating anything so far.
I'm also interested in natural plant repelling if that works... did you look into that Ringo?

If you are looking for good quality well priced mosquito screens call Mosquito screen limited at 2778 8833.
I used their Sai Kung branch for a bunch of work at the beginning of the year and am very happy.
They have a website too with pictures of the screens but I can't for the life of me remember the address.

If you google it, there are a few common plants that may help, but you have to help them release their oils for them to be effective - run your hands though them or crush a few leaves when going in and out at dusk perhaps?

Sounds good with the screens. Will look into that! Thanks.
