I heard that there is dirt cheap movie dvds in shenzhen, but I also heard horror stories on getting really bad quality movies with the audience moving and getting in view of the movie.
Also that there is a difference between normal dvds and dvd 9 or something like that?
Can someone shed some light on this? And what are some stores to go to and what are the ones to avoid?

A friend of mine recommends: Lao Ji is the MTR stop I believe (two stops from Lo Wu) Exit A and as you're walking out, there is a great dvd shop! The last shop before you enter the hallway to go out of the station.
The shop is great and should you ever have any problems with any dvd you buy from there, you can take it back and they'll replace it. My friend's been dealing with them for years. Don't go for dvd9's as there's something different about them and they won't work in our regular dvd players from what I've heard.
BTW - If you go up to the street level of this station, it's an absolute shoppers' paradise! You could get lost here for hours or days and it's safe. Called Dongmun.

I have a friend go to Luo Hu commercial city on few days ago, she told me that she bought a lot of DVDs from one store, called " June Store", it is on Fifth floor, nearby the fabric market. the girl June she sells very good quality DVDs( all DVD 9), also she can guarantee the quality, even the movids have any problems, she can return the other ones for any customers. no need to worry about anything.
she sells perfect quality DVD movids, if you don't believe me, you just try her movids one time. please trust your choice.
Also she can speak good English.

My hot tip: if you want to guarantee that you don't get a filmed-in-the-cinema copy with the people walking past, shakes and coughs... then *don't* buy current cinematic release films. Once a movie is released on DVD for commercial sale, then you can expect to be able to buy good quality copies.
Occasionally you might find a current release film in full quality - these are usually preview DVDs provided to critics etc.
"DVD9" is superior quality to "DVD5". It usually means it is a direct DVD copy, with video and audio quality same as the original. I have never had any problems playing DVD9 - as long as your DVD player can handle dual layer DVDs (which is most of them) then you will be fine.

Basically Luohu Commercial City is the WORST place to buy dvds (and many other things) in SZ. It's dirty, crowded and infested with touts. For the best dvds, try Gome in Huaqiang Bei. It's on the right hand side facing north, about 500 yards from the Hua Qiang Lu Metro. Best dvds are on the 3rd floor. Also Central Book City (behind the City Government). Billed as the world's biggest bookshop and has a fantastic CD and dvd store, legal.
I found it using the taxi guide card in the Shenzhen Unique Guide map which I bought at Dymocks Princes Building

I agree Hua Qiang Bei is best for current movies and for more unusual DVDs the collection at Book City is just amazing - old Hollywood classics etc . So cheap and they always work.
I've used that Shenzhen Unique Guide Map too ! Got mine at Dymocks IFC and now I can get around where I want to go in Shenzhen with no problems. The metro's just like the HK MTR and goes right to Hua Qiang Bei and Book City from Lok Ma Chau MTR.

Yes, one vote for Shenzhen Book City, I went with some HK friends, go to Lok Ma Chau then take the subway to Shiao Nien Gun (think that's the correct phonetics- 4 or 5 stops). NB The stop at Lok Ma Chau is called something like Fu Tian - so don't be looking for Lok Ma Chau when you head back - anyway, it's the first/last stop depending which way you're going.
