The ad is un-misable if you enter CWB mtr station once you pass the ticketing area. It is projected on to the front area where the escalator is leading down to the trains
Its tagline is " unexpected happy surprises". The Spiel is " My annoying boss just got a promotion oh but wait it is great because he is moving to Bangaladesh"
PC or is this ad insensitve? It is written in Chinese
If you feel it is a bit insensitive please contact the EOC complaint@eoc.org.hk or 2511 8211

havent seen the advert yet - but based on what you've written, I'm not sure i understand which part of the ad is offensive?

downgrading bangladesh, shottie
Please support our advertisers:
Surely that downgrade is purely in your own mind since a) the person going to Bangladesh is a 'boss' and, b) he is being 'promoted' to there.
The implication is the annoying boss is going far away, therefore the cloud has a silver lining.
Would it be better if the ad stated 'Mars' instead?
Or would that be planetist?

sorry but bangladesh is not that far away. if it's only about distance, i think they could as well have said UK - even more realistic...
i think the point was that you feel annoyed about the boss and while he got promoted you can feel 'unexpectedly happy' and full of Schadenfreude because he is moved to a 'poor' country like Bangladesh.
disclaimer: i am not saying this IS disciminatory, just trying to explain where moorthe probably came from

I know two people, both expats, who left HK (separately) to work in Bangladesh because they were excited about the challenges of working in a (poor) developing country.
I expect the majority of HK people would not relish these challenges and would not see a job there as a "promotion". As the ad is in Chinese, it is directed at these people, saying, "we wouldn't want to go there - ha, ha, boss".
The ad doesn't say anything bad about Bangladesh - just that most of the people to whom the ad is directed wouldn't want to work there. Neither do many Bangladeshis, for that matter.
Is it insensitive to say "we don't want to work in your country"? Probably. Certainly not very polite and hard to imagine the same being said about a western nation - even if it is true. But the more important question is whether the ad is effective amongst its target market - that is what will determine whether it is pulled or not!

Ive had a call from Advertising standard authority and they say there are unable to deal with this situation as it does not involve distasteful imagary. So they are palming me off to the EOC.
@smallfry, you are totally right I assume that ppl would not choose to go to Bangaledesh unless they are of an adventrous disposition or like to exp. different culture. However, the ad is in bad taste as it perpeptuates negative conitations of the country, im not from Bangaledesh but its just the kinda stuff that shouldnt really be encouraged in a country such as HK with its recent Chip Tsao incident, the Nepali person getting shot. This is the type of advert that IMHO carries on in a similar path
I just think we can do better than that

Would it have been better if it said that the boss was moving to HK? With the pollution and cramped living conditions, many people i know consider HK a hardship transfer.
