What's the procedure for putting baby on passports/registering etc? I have a UK passport and my wife has both UK and Australian and we would like our newborn daughter to have both citizenships. Do I just take birth certificates to relevent embassys?

Thanks

would be wise to check out the requirements for each country on the internet. there are very specific requirements about photo size and the look of the baby in the photo.

also helps to know what documents u need to complete and bring to the embassy.

Children on UK passports also have to have their own, no more adding to parents passports.

As does HK. Daughter has both her own HK and UK passports.

dadda - 3 passports including US? What will you son do when he's older and realised what tax burden you have given him?!!!

The only extra tax burden is the US one. Most other countries don't have global taxation.

Which was my point entirely and why I singled out the US passport!

Australian passports - if the child was born outside Australia you need to establish citizenship first. It's a straightforward process but must be done first. You can then apply for a passport. Remember that the photo requirements are incredibly strict and you will be rejected if the photo isn't up to standard. The woman who processed my son's passport got out her ruler to measure the head dimensions in the photo...eyes open, mouth shut, facing straight at camera, neutral expression, nothing in the background...a bit hard when your baby's a few days old.

I put my baby on a sheepskin rug lying on the bed, baby was lying down, my mother put her hand under the rug to help keep baby's head in place, then I stood over him and snapped away merrily on my digital camera. i then took my memory stick to the photo shop and they made it the correct proportions!

Another method is to cover yourself in a white sheet and hold the baby for the camera through the sheet. That way you get a white backdrop.

Then again I'm sure my girls can give up their US citizenship when they turn 18.
