How to de-register a car?

We are taking our car back to the UK with us and I've been told we need to de-register it when we go. Does anyone have any experience of this and how to go about it? I have checked the DoT website and come up blank.

Go to Forms

Go to TD Forms

Go to Notification of Cancellation of Vehicle Registration

Print, fill in, add supporting documents, post, get refund cheque in 6 weeks.
