A friend and I are fundraising to build a well at a Kenyan hospital - does anyone have experience hosting a charity dinner or scale event for maybe 60+ people? Only considering venues which will give substantial discounts for our cause.

Might you consider one of the university clubs? Some of them are quite moderate and could likely do something at an attractive price on an off-night.

Silly question: How much do you need to raise to build the well? Could you approach the Kenyan consulate here in HK for some ideas? I don't know if Kenyan wines got off the ground, but you could ask Kenya Wine Agencies if it has a distributor in HK - and consider having a sponsored wine dinner-fundraiser. The Helena May might be able to host something at a reasonable cost. Or the HK Football Club... or Ladies Recreation Club. Or the new Kowloon Club in Hung Hom. Plenty of potential venues. FCC. Do you want a sit-down dinner, or just a cocktail? Do you want to make a presentation or just have some fun? Possibilities are endless!

Not a silly question at all! - To fund a village well project, a minimum HK$70,000. But I'm doing fundraising over the course of around 2 years so depending on circumstances I might aim at an ambitious HK$300,000 for a hospital well (I'm fundraising with a friend). The possibilities in Hong Kong are indeed uncountable! But I really want to make sure most of the money goes back down to the project and not the cost of the function, so I'll have to contact each club / restaurant to ask for discount prices - I don't have (m)any contacts in the food business.
