How heavy? I believe the post office has boxes for up to 20kg. If you use surface (sea) shipping it will take a while but won't cost that much.

As far as I know one larger box is typically cheaper, at least for surface shipping. Air shipping is much more dependent on weight as a primary factor.

Some (probably exaggerated) precautions:

- Get some dehumidifying packs from Japan Home or the grocery store. The ones you put in drawers. Pack these in with the components. They will absorb any moisture in the packaging.

- Seal the components (and the packs) in plastic. That way there will be no water damage.

- Seal the box with tape along all seams.

- When you get to your destination, allow your components to sit in the open for 12 hours or so before using, just to minimize the risk of moisture damage.

Correction. The max weight box takes up to 30 kg.

thanks, probably makes sense to just do it using HK post then as there is a PO 2 minutes from the house...

unless anyone knows a cheaper service?

The old "friend traveling back to home country" is of course rather cheap. As long as he/she has enough baggage allowance. ;)
